My Electric Avenue project gets the green light from Ofgem

My Electric Avenue, an innovative project that aims to provide a solution to the potential impact that the recharging of electric vehicles (EVs) may have on the local electricity network, is now officially underway following final sign-off by Ofgem of the Customer Engagement Plan and Data Protection Strategy.   As sales of electric vehicles increase, there is a need to assess the potential impact that a cluster of EVs may have in a local area served by one electricity substation. In the event of all EVs being recharged at the same time, and without any preparation, the load on the local electricity network may exceed the substation capacity.   My Electric Avenue is an exciting project which promises to deliver real, significant benefits on both commercial and technical levels through the engagement of customers, DNOs, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and companies new…

Budget: Bad news for Electric vehicle Market?

BVRLA chief executive John Lewis shares his comments on the Budget:   New thresholds for company car Benefit-in-Kind tax: “This decision to rethink the benefit-in-kind thresholds on low-emission company cars will ensure they remain an attractive proposition for drivers.   “The market for plug-in vehicles is growing but confidence in this new technology, particularly the costs involved, remains fragile. This move will reassure thousands of potential drivers.”   On 100% FYA’s for ultra-low emission lease cars: “Thousands of businesses, particularly SME’s, rely on leasing to acquire their cars, in many cases because they can’t raise the finance elsewhere.   “This decision to remove 100% First-Year Allowances won’t stop them leasing, but it will result in them choosing cheaper cars with higher CO2 emissions.   “In effect, the government is hindering the momentum towards greener motoring. We think overall car emissions in the UK could…

Plug In Mitsubishi Outlander Hybrid: First drive by lease experts Fleetdrive

I was very pleased to be invited to Mitsubishi UK Headquarters this week to drive the new Outlander Plug in Hybrid.   Detailed review to follow but this car is going to be a very important car in the SUV sector – mainly because of the extremely low emissions which will doubtless find many fans in the company car sector. As with all hybrids we will reserve judgement on real life fuel efficiency but a healthy electric only range and CHADEMO rapidcharging make is possible to run this mostly on electric only for the Chelsea Tractor type of urban family use – watch this space!!!   We will get lease costs out as soon as we have pricing form Mitsubishi – my guess just under £40k before any grant.   Get in touch if you would like to know more.

Nissan launch e-NV200 electric taxi at the CV show say lease specialists Fleetdrive electric

Nissan will be showcasing two new vehicles at the 13th annual Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC Birmingham on April 9-11.   The E-NV200, Nissan’s first 100% electric van will make its UK debut at the show. Nissan says it has already won praise with fleet operators during trials, for zero CO2 at the point of use, driving comfort and generous carrying capacity and payload.   Also making its debut on the Nissan stand will be the NV200 taxi, Nissan’s vision for the future of the London ‘black cab’. The NV200 taxi is based on the company’s multi-purpose NV200 compact van and redesigned to fully comply with the host of TFL Taxi Conditions of Fitness. As well as seating to comfortably accommodate five passengers, the NV200 Taxi has also been modified to accommodate a wheel chair passenger and achieve a 25ft (7.6m) turning-circle –…

New Renault ZOE lease comes with a FREE home-charging point

The Renault ZOE just keeps getting better… We were already excited about ZOE arriving in the Summer, but now it’s been announced that customers will receive a free Wall-box domestic charging point with their lovely new car, resulting in a saving of around £500.   The ZOE is part of the French company’s all-electric assault on the British car market, and it follows the Fluence Z.E. family saloon and Twizy urban commuter which are already on sale in the UK. In order to increase the demand for the new ZOEs, Renault will be offering a free home charging point with every car sold.   Whenever a ZOE is ordered or bought, British Gas will be informed and who will then contact the customer to arrange a suitable time for the survey and installation to take place. The Single Wall-box comes with a 4.5-metre long…

London on the starting grid for Formula E Grand Prix

London has been officially selected as one of only eight cities around the world to host a race as part of the upcoming Formula E electric car racing series.   The capital beat stiff competition from 23 cities around the world that expressed an interest in hosting one of the 10 races planned for next year. It now joins Rome, Los Angeles, Miami, Beijing, Putrajaya, Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro as the selected locations for the inaugural season. Formula E Holdings, the promoter of the FIA Formula E Championship, said two more races would be announced at a later date.   The organiser is now planning to work with each of the selected cities to confirm their feasibility and finalise the calendar for the first season, with a view to signing formal agreements with the host cities by July. The final calendar will…
